Opioid Crisis

image15

Every day, more than 130 people in the United States die after overdosing on opioids. The misuse of and addiction to opioids—including prescription pain relievers, heroin,, and synthetic opioids such as fentanyl— is a serious national crisis that affects public health as well as social and economic welfare. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that the total "economic burden" of prescription opioid misuse alone in the United States is $78.5 billion a year, including the costs of healthcare, lost productivity, addiction treatment, and criminal justice involvement

You might have heard that Atlanta is one of the top cities known for human trafficking. Since Georgia is home to the largest international airport in the United States it makes Atlanta the unfortunate host to a trafficker’s ideal location.

Suicide is the second leading cause of injury death and the eleventh overall leading cause of death in Georgia.

Suicide may be prevented by increasing awareness of the risk factors for suicide, identifying the warning signs of major depression and suicidal thoughts, and referring those experiencing depression or suicidal ideation for appropriate treatment.

If you or someone you know is actively suicidal help is available around the clock by calling the GA Crisis and Access Line at 1-800-815-7225.
